MAY CRICKET REPORT
During one of our final warm up games on the 30th April we were expecting the fine weather that had gone before to continue. However, after just seven balls the players had to run from the field due to a freak hail shower. Peter Trim, our umpire, can be seen in the photograph leaving the field of play. The ground turned white and more rain showers came so no further play was possible.
The Devon League season got under way during the first somewhat showery weekend of May with wins and maximum points for the 1st XI and the 2nd XI.
The 1st XI were away at Woodbury. John Lavender was top scorer with 44 not out chasing Woodbury’s total of 123, and Ben Noble returned the best figures of the day taking three wickets for 16 runs.
The 2nd XI batted first against Topsham scoring 229 for 6 declared, with Tommy Wallis getting his maiden century for the club finishing on 102 not out. Topsham were then bowled out just before nightfall for 169, with Steve Morris returning figures of 3 for 37 from his 12 overs.
There were very different results in week two of the league season. With half of the 1st XI away at a stag weekend the teams looked very different from the weekend before. The 1st XI entertained Tiverton, who amassed 288 runs batting first before Kilmington were bowled out for 155. The 2nd XI were away to Exeter’s third team. Exeter batted first and scored 214, with Charlie Potter claiming the best figures of the day with three wickets for 10 runs. Kilmington got to 142 all out in reply, with Les Baker top scoring with 37 runs.
New faces have appeared on the boundary ropes watching play this year, which is great,
and we hope to see more throughout the season, particularly on Sunday 29th May for
our fundraising 10-
