Kilmington Village Design Statement

This document has been prepared by villagers following a lengthy consultation process and was approved by the Parish Council in June 2011. It was endorsed by the Development Management Committee of the East Devon District Council (EDDC) on 18th October 2011.

The Design Statement is a planning document, but it does not supplant or override anything that is in the existing body of planning legislation. Rather, it has official standing as Supplementary Planning Guidance and should be consulted and used both by the Parish Council and the EDDC when considering planning applications that affect the Parish of Kilmington.

It is hoped that you will find this document interesting as well as useful. Whether contemplating a planning application or not, we should all take an interest in planning matters that will impinge on our village, its character and its heritage, and its rural setting.

The document contains the following sections:

  • Introduction
  • Summary, Key Aims and Recommendations
  • Part A - The Development of Kilmington
  • Part B - Roads, Lanes and the Village Gateways
  • Part C - The Landscape Setting
  • Part D - Kilmington Today
  • Part E - The Built Form
