BAPTIST CHURCH FIRE
Fire broke out in the Baptist Church, Shute Road, Kilmington in the early hours of
Thursday, 5 March. No-one was hurt but the church roof was badly burnt as the photos
show. There were approximately 6 fire engines & 2 support vessels & 40 fire-fighters
at any one time. The fire is now basically out but the damage is extensive. Lucy
Holmes took these photos from their house window (the Manse) after calling the fire
services. They were awoken by popping sounds & there was some electrical arching
activity. The fire then quickly spread.
