This is a short easy circular walk within the village.

Start at Gapemouth Corner where the post box at the top of the village is situated.

Walk up the Roman Road on the right of the Common. As the road starts to go uphill slightly, after entering the wooded area, the Roman Road joins with footpath 19 by turning sharp left along a well defined level path (at the finger post that now needs replacing), passing along a short section through the woods.

On reaching a “kissing” gate, climb over and turn sharp right to follow the boundary of the field to the corner. Go up the steps and turn left along the raised walk between the field and the woods.

The short path ends on the Shute Road (Coach Road) opposite Bywood.

Turn left to walk down the road back to the starting point, where there is a seat!

The Roman Road proceeds along its length to Shute Pillars, where you can walk through Shute and turn back to Kilmington on either path/road at Shute Barton. Be careful walking along the road (one to one and a half hours), due to traffic.
