FOOTHPATH 1 Nominal length 45 minutes

This is a walk across open farmland, returning on a country lane. Wear walking shoes or wellies in winter.

The walk starts on the Coryton side of the Farm Shop entrance where there is a finger post (Public Footpath) by a gap in the hedge. Go through this gap and proceed towards Old Vealhayes, and then curve around in an easterly direction to go through a short stretch of newly planted trees.

This is quickly followed by a descent down steps to a stile (care if wet). Over the stile keep to the hedge on your left to a footbridge over a small stream (Summerleaze Farm and Balls Dairy are on your right). Continue with the hedge on your left to a stile in the top corner of the field (there is a slightly long drop on the far side of this stile).

Turn north west with Coryton on your left. Proceed confidently across the field where a stile over a wire fence will come into view. Over the stile, proceed on to a second stile. Coryton Farm will now be ahead of you.

Although there looks like a logical path to the left, the actual footpath goes through the farm. Proceed towards the silage bales and this will bring you along a path through the farm barns. The farm dogs will greet you as they have for generations (or are they the same dogs?). Do not turn right but emerge from the farm on to the Membury Road.

Turn left and this will bring you back along Coryton Lane to your starting point and possibly even into the Old Inn!

This is a fairly easy walk with views of Axminster and the Axe Valley.
