This is a longer walk across open farmland and lanes. Probable time 1 hour - 1½hours
FOOTHPATH 9
The Footpath starts at the A35 on the NW margins of the village SE of Studhayes Cross. Great care must be taken walking on the far side of the main road on a grass verge, the traffic passes very close and very fast.
Turn into a private road at the beginning of the footpath to FORDHAYES FARM. The path bears left amongst cottages. Pass through the small gate to the right of the field style gate of “The Cottage” and immediately turn right down a few small steps along a narrow pathway and then oyer a stile into a field. Proceed across the field to a small bridge over the Cory Brook in the bottom left of the field. From here head left across the field to the hedge, whether there is a double stile. Walk up across to the field gate (opening) ahead of you. Here the path can split*
FOOTHPATH 8
Proceed from here up to Clifthorne Farm, pass through a new small metal gate. Turn right, through another metal gate and then continue up the farm track in front of you. The farm track is quite steep but the view is wonderful, especially on a sunny day. It emerges at the top onto the lane. Follow the lane back to the village by turning right to Dulcis Cross. Turn right to go down the hill to Millgreen. On the far side of the bridge you can either turn up the right hand lane which is slightly steeper but brings you back to your start. Or, turning left to Coryton Farm and eventually the crossroads at the Old Inn. Take care crossing the road
OR*
The footpath from the gate officially proceeds up to Clifthorne Farm, around the lower barns and back down the field to the gate in the far corner, but if coming from Fordhayes, Mr G. Hurford has given permission to walk across the bottom of the field. Pass through the gate, across the bottom of the next field to a stile and continue across the next field to a bridge over the river.
ON TO
FOOTHPATH 11
Over the bridge there is a stile on your right. Over the stile and turn left to proceed through the farmyard of Marsh Farm and up the track to the lane. Turn left along the lane past Studhayes Farm to the main road, turn left and proceed to start.
The fields by the river will be wet and muddy in winter and after rain. The river near Marsh Farm can flood up the track and this area can be wet and muddy.
