The improving weather at this time of year usually brings out the rogue builders or roofers. We have had several reports already. Please be reminded never employ tradesmen who cold call at your door. The risks are simply too great. Shoddy workmanship, very high prices which change as the job progresses, unnecessary work, and intimidation if you don't pay promptly are only some of them. It is much safer to use local tradesmen of known good reputation who should offer a written quote and a guarantee. If you feel that you have been deceived, please call the police or Trading Standards with details of the company involved.
Please phone us with any information on 08452 777 444.

Our previous message relating to rogue tarmaccers scored a hit. A community messaging recipient responded promptly, enabling police to stop-check and identify the occupants of a vehicle. Although no actual offences were committed in this case these people will have realised that their card is now marked and may not try their tricks here for a while. The police officers involved were suspicious but there was not enough evidence to take direct action. Well done that recipient.

We have received a report of a caller in Shute Axminster trying to sell Compost Door to Door. The reporting person was rightly suspicious and sent them on their way. It is never a good idea to purchase anything from someone you don't know at your door. Tales like we were doing a job down the road and have a bit of compost, tarmac, concrete etc left over are always a danger sign and should put you on your guard.

Even at home, everyone is urged to make sure that they wrap up warm, and have plenty of hot drinks throughout the day.If you have elderly or vulnerable neighbours, please keep an eye out for them and stay in regular contact to make sure they are OK. Thank you
