Minor works in hand to improve A35 at Kilmington
RESIDENTS in Kilmington can expect to see “improvements concerned with footway and bus stop alterations” undertaken along the A35 this financial year, according to the Highways Agency.
This comes after Devon County Council sent a letter to the Highways Agency asking them to consider options for reducing speed along the stretch of road and to provide safe crossings for pedestrians.
The letter sent to the Highways Agency was promoted after a group of concerned villagers got together to form a action group to fight for speed restrictions and safe crossings along the A35 through their village.
The action group gained support from DCC and a letter was sent from Ian Harrison, Deputy Director for Environment, Economy and Culture, to the Highways Agency, urging them to consider options for reducing speed through Kilmington.
A reply from the Highways Agency, from department representative Chris Bastin, was sent to Mr Harrison at DCC.
It said: “Let me assure you that I am aware of issues at play in Kilmington. We are doing all we can to look further into what can be done, building on earlier work. A more detailed study of this highway link is underway, which should provide us with a greater understanding of what is needed.
“In the meantime a number of minor improvements concerned with footways and bus stop alterations will be undertaken this financial year.”
The action group are collecting signatures in support of their campaign to kill speed. So far they have more than 400 names.
