Tribute to the memory of a dedicated cricket fan

ONE of Kilmington Cricket Club’s dedicated patrons has been honoured and remembered with the installation of a pair of wrought iron gates, completing the playing field and pavilion project.
Mrs May Lavender donated the gates in memory of her late husband Jack Lavender, who was involved with Kilmington Cricket Club for many years.
It has been a long-standing tradition in the village that a member of the Hurford family be part of the cricket club. In the 1950’s Jack Lavender married May Hurford of Hurford Stores, meaning he was destined to help carry on the family tradition.
Jack Lavender was for many years either secretary, chairman, or treasurer of the Kilmington Cricket Club and when he passed away, his son David took over his role.
In a lasting memory to Jack’s love of cricket and his dedication to the club, his wife May donated the wrought iron gates for the playing field in his honour.
The gates complete the massive two-year project to rebuild the playing fields and build a new pavilion dedicated to the memory of Arthur Hitchcock, another great stalward supporter of Kilmington Cricket Club.
Although the new pavilion and playing fields project is complete there are still some funds left to raise.
In total the project has cost in the region of £150,000 and members of the committee still need to raise the final £1,500.
