Kilmington gears up for annual show

IT’S that time of year again when people start digging up their carrots, polishing their tomatoes and baking those cakes as Kilmington Village Produce Association annual show draws near.
  This is the 60th year that the annual show has taken place and it promises to be a great event for all the family.
 The well-known, and respected former chairman of Kilmington Parish Council, Bill Kerslake, who is also Honorary President of the produce association, will open this year’s show, which takes place on Saturday, August 4th.
   His first unenviable task is to judge the children’s fancy dress competition, with all those taking part receiving a reward for their efforts, as will those also taking part in the children’s sports events.
  In previous years entries in the competitions have been in excess of 650 and organisers are always pleased that so many men entering the baking competition, threatening to take the first honours from the ladies.
  There will be a host of exhibits from the flowers, fruit and vegetables to handicrafts, preserves, cookery and more.
  The show will also feature trade stands and side shows, music from Lyme Regis Town Band and demonstrations from the majorettes.
  Members of Kilmington WI will be serving delicious cream teas in the village hall and ice creams and cold drinks will be available.
  The Kilmington Village Produce Association Annual Show will take place at the Arthur Hitchcock playing field on Saturday, August 4th, from 1.15pm.
