Potato wars in Kilmington

GREEN fingered residents in Kilmington will once again be growing spuds to raise money for the Devon Air Ambulance to take part in the annual Potato Growing Championship at the New Inn.
Organised by local vegetable expert, Peter Lockwood, the competition will see 20 contestants pitted against each other to see which one can grow the heaviest weight of potatoes, all in aid of the Devon Air Ambulance.
Mr Lockwood told View from Axminster: ‘We have sold 20 seed potatoes at £5 each and participants have planted them in grow bags and buckets. The Sunday before Christmas they will be brought along to the New Inn where we will weigh the produce.
“The idea is to have a great day out and raise a bit of cash for the air ambulance.”
He added: “The beauty of it is that everyone taking part will have a bowl full of delicious salad potatoes for Christmas dinner!”
Mr Lockwood has organised similar competitions in the past for charity with people growing the biggest onions.
The great weigh in will take place at noon on December 23rd.
