Plan to map out future development of Kilmington

THE Kilmington Parish Plan is set to be endorsed by East Devon District Council and will help map out future development in the village.

It will go before the district authority’s development control committee today (Tuesday) and officers say the Kilmington Parish Plan Group should be congratulated on their work and commended for the completion of the analysis themselves.

An officer report says:
“The Parish Plan will provide a very useful insight into the community’s views, resulting from an extensive impartial public consultation. This will ensure that decisions taken by the district council will take these views into account and will assist in prioritisation and working in partnership with the parish council and other local bodies.”

The concept of a Parish Plan for Kilmington was introduced to over 130 residents who attended a public meeting in April 2006. A committee was formed to take the project forward and an open afternoon at which 50 suggestions were made was very successful.

In order to establish how the residents of Kilmington would like to see the parish develop in the future a questionnaire was then circulated to all households. Following the distribution and collection of the questionnaire, 400 dwellings were identified in the parish with a population of around 800. Over 90 per cent of the questionnaires were returned - a very high response rate.
