Kilmington features in historical novel

KILMINGTON is to feature in the debut novel of Lincolnshire writer Karen Maitland.
The book features many geographical areas but opens at a Midsummer Fair in Kilmington. With its East Devon connections publishers Michael Joseph and Penguin, have chosen Honiton Library to launch the medieval novel, “The Company of Liars”.
The story begins in Devon at the Midsummer Fair in Kilmington, which historically was granted a charter to hold an annual fair in the Middle Ages.
At the fair, the character Camelot first meets rune-reader, Narigorm.
The book takes the reader back to the plague era of the 14th century, and is reminiscent of The Canterbury Tales”.
Four libraries have been chosen across the South West to help promote the launch of the novel with Honiton amongst them.
The launch event will include a question and answer session with the author, and local storyteller Clive Pig will perform a dramatisation of the prologue and start of the book.
“The Company of Liars” event will be held at Honiton Library on Monday, February 11th, at 730pm.
Tickets, priced £2, are available from Honiton Library (01404) 42818. Copies of the book will be sold on the evening by the Curious Otter Bookshop.
