THE VILLAGE HALL AGM 2010

The Annual General Meeting was held in The Cudmore Room on Tuesday, 27th April. Sadly, the Hall Users were not well represented which was a shame because as a committee we do appreciate the active participation which these opportunities give us to sort out any problems that may exist.

The accounts revealed that last year more money went out than came in but we had had several “one-off’ expenses such as the purchase of 30 new chairs for the Cudmore Room and new flooring for the men’s cloakroom so we hope this will not be the future trend.

A recent Fire Risk Assessment carried out in the hall highlighted the fact that we did not comply with up-to-date legal requirements so work will take place during the summer holidays to fit a fire alarm system and more emergency lighting. We have always been aware that, after 25 years, our hall would become an expensive facility and that our fund-raising must keep apace. Our own “100 Club” has been a great benefit to us over the years but unfortunately the number of people participating in the draw has decreased this year so PLEASE, PLEASE if you do not belong, yet use the hall or are keen to see it well maintained, JOIN next January when new members will be MOST welcome!

Our annual Spring Clean took place earlier this month. Once again only a few people other than the Committee turned up. A most sincere “thank you” to everyone who did give up a morning to help us keep the interior looking as we would wish.

At the meeting we drew attention to the importance of replacing chairs/tables etc after an event to their correct places, always leaving space around Fire Doors and enabling future users to move their own equipment around. The Hall Committee were re-elected “en bloc” and I would like to say again how grateful I am to them for all for the hard work they all do, making my job as Chairman very enjoyable.
