FAMILY HARVEST FESTIVAL AT ST GILES' CHURCH
The celebrations of Harvest Festival in the country usually result in good support from families for the farmers, and of course many of our residents are keen gardeners. This year in St Giles' Church on Sunday 14th October at 11.00 am we are hoping for an even better than usual attendance because of the influx of new residents to the Village and because the Diocese of Exeter is supporting the countrywide "Back to Church" initiative. New residents and those whose Church attendance has lapsed over the years are particularly welcome to attend what should be an exhilarating Festival celebration. The Church will be attractively decorated with flowers and produce, the Lessons will read by local farmers, the choir will be at full strength and will sing a harvest anthem, children will participate with readngs and music, and the Vicar, the Rev'd Nigel Freathy, is bound to preach a very interesting and relevant sermon. The collection will be donated to Christian Aid, the charity which supports so many good causes throughout the world.
A Harvest Festival Lunch will follow the Service in the Village Hall where a three course meal will be provided by Mary Seward and her helpers (tickets at £5 for adults, children free, available from Hurfords Stores). There will be a raffle of produce and the entertainment after lunch wil be provided by the Croft Originals from Dalwood.
Elizabeth Stonex will be judging the Giant Pumpkin Competition and it will be very interesting to see what has been producded as a result of the sowings at the Rogation Service at Coryton Farm last May. We must certainly send a photograph to the Rev'd Wilson Mwangi in Kena who gave such good advice on nurturing our plants and our souls at that Service! Everyone is always welcome at St Giles' Church events, and we shall be particularly pleased to see you at this one.
