ST GILES' CHURCH CONCERT
The evening of musical entertainment in St Giles' Church on Saturday 29th September, organised by Rachel Burrough and Margaret Hurford, was very well received by an appreciative audience. The violin pieces by Rachel Burrough and Holly Chapman with Celia Marriage (viola) & Sally Glanvill (cello) included works by Handel, Elgar, Bucalossi, and Shostakovich. Christopher Balcomb's tenor rendering of "Panis Angelicus" and "Christopher Robin is Saying His Prayers" drew great applause. Alex Davies performed magnificently on the organ throughout, particularly with the Handel Concerto No. 7in D minor. Soprano Susie Hodges sang pieces by Vaughan Williams, Roger Quilter, Dring and Milmer beautifully. Two readings from John Betjeman (Blame the Vicar) and Rudyard Kipling (The Glory of the Garden) were given by Judith Evans and Nigel Freathy. The choirs of Kilmington and Dalwood Churches performed well with songs by John Dowland and Gerald Finsey concluding with Purcell's "Rejoice in the Lord Alway" and Stanford's "Jubilate", Rachel Burrough and David Evans being the soloists. Thanks to the artistes and all who supported the concert which raised £552 for Church Funds.
