ST GILES' CHURCH HARVEST FESTIVAL
The Rev'd Wilson Mwangi, visiting Kilmington from Kenya last May, gave very good advice about nurturing pumpkins and souls at a Rogation Barn Service in Coryton Farm, run by Peter, Monica, Arnold and Alison Dare. He assisted the Vicar, the Rev'd Nigel Freathy, in handing out giant pumpkin seeds with compost for the children to grow. The remarkable results were revealed during a packed Harvest Festival Thanksgiving Service in St Giles' Church on Sunday 14 October. At the Harvest Lunch in the Village Hall afterwards, 7 year old Tom Hodder was awarded first prize for his 37kg pumpkin; asked the secret of his success, "chicken poo" was his response! 12 year old Lucy Highet won second prize which followed her win last year with a 17 ft giant sunflower! Funds were raised for Christian Aid and The Tear Fund.
