Holy Week in Kilmington will be celebrated by a number of events, as befits this most important time in the Christian year.
A donkey from the Sidmouth Sanctuary has been booked to lead the Palm Sunday Procession from Kilmington Common at 10.30 am on Sunday 16th March along The Hill past the New Inn and down The Street past Koppers to St Giles’ Church, stopping periodically for readings/hymns/songs/prayers and to hand out Palm Crosses. A United Palm Sunday Service with the Baptists will start at 11.15 am in the Parish Church at which the new Baptist Minister, the Rev’d Darrell Holmes, will give the Address. Refreshments will be provided afterwards in the Village Hall. Please come and join in this colourful and lively occasion. At 7.00 pm that evening, the Benefice Choirs will sing “The Cross of Christ” in Yarcombe Church at which there will be some appropriate Readings.
On Tuesday 18th March, Brian Lavender will give a talk entitled “Easter in Jerusalem” showing a video that he took during Holy Week in Jerusalem, in St Giles’ Church at 7.30 pm. Everyone will be welcome.
Maundy Thursday 20th March, will be marked by a supper with Communion in the Baptist Chapel at 7.00 pm, while St Giles’ Church will hold a Service of Holy Communion at 7.30 pm which will include the symbolic washing of feet and the stripping of the altar. Some might like to join in the “Procession of Witness” on Good Friday at 11.00 am from the Catholic Church in Axminster, arranged by “Axminster Churches Together”. That evening the Benefice Choir will give a second performance of the “Cross of Christ” in Dalwood Church.
At 7.00 am on Easter Sunday a short Dawn Service entitled “A Reflection on the Empty Tomb” will be held at the symbolic Shute Armada Beacon. Why not make a special effort to attend where dogs will be welcome! There will be an Easter Sunday Family Service in St Giles’ Church at 9.30 am followed by a short Service of Holy Communion while the children can participate in an Easter Egg Hunt in the Vicarage garden, with activities in the Village Hall. An all age Easter Service will be held in the Baptist Chapel at 10.45 am with a Service of Easter Praise at 6.30 pm.
We invite all readers to make Holy Week special in Kilmington, and we wish you a very Happy and Blessed Easter.
