Changes in Kilmington Parish Council

Your Parish Council has a maximum of nine councillors. To operate effectively, representing a cross section of our community, we need a full team of nine. At least four of our longstanding councillors are retiring this year as, either they have left the parish or, having served the village for many years, they now wish to retire. If nine or less candidates come forward and stand then they are automatically elected. If more than nine candidates stand, then we hold a local election and you can vote to choose who makes up the council.
We need at least four new councillors – Make a change and join our team

We know that we need at least four new candidates to stand and offer to join our council. Are you passionate about our community? Do you want to help make a difference? Do you have new ideas for the council? Do you have concerns about specific issues and want to do something about them? If you live in the parish and this is you, then we need you. We need people from all backgrounds and experiences who reflect our community to put themselves forward to help  improve residents‘ lives. Make a change and become a councillor.

What is involved?

We meet once a month, in the evening for about two hours to discuss village matters. Once or twice a year we might hold an additional meeting to cover something urgent. Some councillors have specific responsibilities, depending on their skills, such as reporting on roads, the allotments, trees, the recreation ground, the village hall, etc. In your role you will represent the community, making and reviewing decisions, contributing new ideas and helping solve issues. Training is available and the term of office is usually four years.

Please contact Adrian Jenkins, our Parish Clerk, 07800 826657 for more details and a nomination form. All nomination forms must be received by EDDC by 4th April 2023.
