How Was The Kilmington Village Design Statement Created?
2010
A working group was established by Kilmington Parish Council – comprising cross section of villagers. Work started in earnest to produce the KVDS – primarily based on information from the Parish Plan questionnaire.
31st July 2010
A display about KVDS was staged in village hall on the day of village annual show. Approx. 70 – 80 attended of which 47 “signed” the visitors’ record. Members of the working team attended to speak with residents and answer questions.
4th September 2010
The KVDS display was shown again in village hall. Approx. 50 – 60 attended of which 35 “signed” the visitors’ record. (Both displays were well advertised in village magazine, which is delivered to every household on the village, and in the village web-site. A flier advertising the second display was delivered with the milk round to approx. 150 village households.
Note: There were no duplications in the “signed” visitors’ record for the two meetings – so the total “signed” visitors was 82 while in excess of 100 attended the display days.
Questionnaires were handed out during both display days and 32 feed-back forms were received from the two but many other people congratulated the team for its work.
21st April 2011
A presentation of the KVDS was given at the Annual Parish Meeting, approx. 70 attending – followed by a Question and Answer session.
A copy of the Draft Summary & Recommendations (a 12 page document) was handed out to all those attending. Spare copies of the document (approx. 70) were delivered to “noted” non-attendees at this presentation – (Unfortunately the APM conflicted with Maundy Thursday service). The full 12 page document) was also posted on the Village Web-site – and an e-mail address was created to receive comments (comments could also be made by delivering a note to the village store or by writing to the Chairman of the Parish Council). Only 15 responses were received – several simply in favour of the document.
June 2011
Final Draft of the KVDS was produced and submitted to and approved by Kilmington Parish Council.
July 2011
Final Draft of the KVDS was submitted to EDDC for comments/adoption.
Autumn 2011
The Kilmington Village Design Statement was approved by EDDC, published and adopted.

How Was The Kilmington Parish Plan Created?
A presentation about Parish Plans was made at the 2007 Annual Parish Meeting (Approx. 90 residents attended) those present supported the project. A cross section of villagers volunteered and became involved in producing the document.
Questionnaires were delivered to 362 out of 394 households in the village. The other 32 properties being either second homes, unoccupied or their owners were known to be away. 336 returns were received back, of which 10 were blank, so completed return rate was 90%. The total number of people in the village completing the return was 712 (incl. children).
The working team analysed the information and produced the final Parish Plan.
On completion, printed versions of the Plan were distributed to every household and new arrivals to the village are given a copy in their “Welcome Pack”. The full Parish Plan is also published on the village website.
Kilmington Parish Council established a working committee to follow-up and implement the main aims identified in the Parish Plan.
